فيما كنت أقرأ، مرّت أفكار كثيرة في رأسي، لكن أقلّ ما يمكنني قوله أن الأسئلة الأخيرة هي انعكاس يومي أراه في مرآتي الصباحية، وفي أثناء قيادتي للسيارة.
لقد هربت كثيراً من فكرة الهروب من أقرب مجموعة لي من النساء المكافحات والمناضلات، وما زالت هذه الفكرة المخيفة تطلّ عليّ من حين الى آخر، عندما أشعر أن المكان الوحيد الذي انتمي اليه لم يوجد بعد. لكنني أمقت بيروت أكثر من قدرتي على الاحتمال، ان لم يكن من متنفس “ثوري”، وان كان مشوباً بالعزلة والخطايا والجراح في كثير من الأحيان.
وبي شعور محزن يخبرني أني لو تخلّيت عن رفيقاتي، سأمقت بيروت حدّ الرحيل أو الموت، والأمران سيّان بالنسبة اليّ.

Great article. As a foreigner, I have heard many racist, beligerent comments being about other foreigners and women, in particular. It saddens me that to this day, my husband believes Lebanon is a great place to raise out children. Lebanese walk around with their eyes and ears shut. They open them only when it is relevant to them.
