The Return Of the Warriors
We’ve been out of touch, and out of words. Really, it is the words and the ideas that brings us to you. We’ve been taking some time out, a break that many of us needed, to reflect, to self assess and to digest the many experiences that we’ve been facing on a personal and political level. We’re back now and we have a small message for YOU.
We might not know as a writers and knowledge producers how to take the streets and bring you with us, Or how to make writing the latest trend, even though it is. Examine again your Facebook statuses, your tweets and the SMSes you’ve sent during critical moments, be they personal statements, sentimental phrases or those of your sheer wit. Writing is one of the essential tools in critical times, and you know as much as we do that we are living in critical times, even if its direct implications haven’t altered our day to day lives yet. They are bound to happen. Change is inevitable, so is feminist writing. Scratch that. So is women’s writing as an act of survival, something like food recipes, herb recipes and holy scriptures. Writing is essential, because it is an act that preserves language.
language |ˈla ng gwij|
noun
1 the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way : a study of the way children learn language | [as adj. ] language development.
2 any nonverbal method of expression or communication : a language of gesture and facial expression.
We are calling forth in this message those who wish to be involved in taking part in this process. We are calling forth the hermits of our communities to come join us. Poetesses, writers, and artists to join us and help us learn and teach ourselves better this act of preserving language and knowledge. To create a better understanding of why women have suffered and continue to suffer.
We call upon you to write, we challenge you to teach us your experiences and reflections, to allow yourselves to become vulnerable to others, so that your own writing heals you and us with you.
SAN wishes to grow into a community of writers, hermits, witches, priestesses, prophetesses, visionaries, the queers, the radical, the exiled, the anarchists or however you choose to identify yourself in relation and opposition to your communities.
We wish to make it understandable, that we want YOU, the normally silent or outspoken women among your communities, families and countries with the desire of writing and self expression to wake up and join us. We wish to call forth the marginalized, the outcasts, the “weird” ones, and all of you who make people move away from them because they defy the status quo of any community or group. We call forth the warriors of these critical times to rise up to the challenge: we must produce the critical knowledge for the rest of our sisters, those who are stuck still in their fears, arrogance, ignorance, and/or self hatred, and those who will carry on after we cease to exist.
